St. Joseph – Free English Classes
School and Tutors on Wheels
1515 West Ogden Avenue
LaGrange Park, IL 60526
School and Tutors on Wheels works to ensure the inclusion of those who are often excluded, underrepresented or undervalued because they lack English literacy skills. Since 1993, we have been providing free, mobile, individualized adult English literacy services in Cook and DuPage Counties in Illinois that help adults with low English literacy skills overcome the barriers that often prevent them from learning to read and write: lack of money, time, transportation and childcare as well as fear and embarrassment.
School on Wheels provides free adult literacy services in seven locations in a one-on-one environment on a 40-foot bus converted into a mobile classroom that is fully-equipped with desks, books, shelves and other resources. Tutors on Wheels offers free one-on-one English literacy tutoring in addition to group classes, citizenship preparation and “Learning on the Job” workplace literacy at ten locations. Our individualized attention enables the students to focus on their areas of need and learn at their own pace. Gradually, they become better able to find jobs, advance in the workplace, help their children with their homework, and communicate with doctors, teachers, neighbors, and merchants. Our students break out of the poverty cycle, improve their life situations, and more fully participate in their communities.
Our programs operate year round in day and evening shifts. We serve students from approximately 35 suburbs at fourteen sites in the Chicago metropolitan area. Our child-friendly sites, conveniently located for those who do not have transportation, include churches, schools, shopping centers, and libraries.

Our Mission
Living Alternatives is committed to saving the lives of unborn children by promoting life-affirming options and providing practical assistance, while sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ in word and deed, and to minister restoration to those who have been wounded by the trauma of abortion.
Statement of Purpose
Living Alternatives advertises as the Pregnancy Resource Center with free testing and confidential counseling. Most women come into the center because they are in crisis. We want to counsel them and support all types of women in crisis – abortion-minded and not abortion-minded. Our other services, which include parenting classes, providing maternity and baby clothing, abstinence education and post abortion counseling, are secondary services. We absolutely do not coerce or badger any woman into making any type of decision about her baby. We present the truth and it is up to the woman to make any decision concerning the outcome of the pregnancy.

Accuracy
CareNet is committed to providing its clients with accurate and complete information about both prenatal development and abortion.
Honesty

Practical Support
CareNet is committed to assisting women to carry to term by providing emotional support and practical assistance. Through the provision of God’s people and the community at large, families may face the future with hope, and plan constructively for themselves and their babies.
Educational
CareNet is committed to creating awareness within the local community of the needs of pregnant women, and of the fact that abortion only compounds human need rather than resolving it.
Abstinence promoting
CareNet does not recommend, provide, or refer single women for contraceptives. In our counseling rooms and the classroom, CareNet encourages single individuals to practice abstinence.
Adoption Supporting
CareNet recognizes the validity of adoption as one alternative to abortion, but is not biased toward adoption when compared to the other life-saving alternatives. Centers are independent of adoption agencies, relating to them in the same manner as to other helpful referral sources.
